Apple Store Fifth Avenue Grand Opening

Exhausting to say the least, but definitely fun and exciting. Meggie and I were totally retarded enough to wait in line for about 2 and a half hours just so we could be one of the first 500 people to go into the store. Surprisingly, the rain during the afternoon on Friday worked towards our benefit and we got there later than we expected but were still able to get into the store to get the coveted FREE Apple Store Fifth Avenue t-shirt.
There were definitely lots and lots of geeks and nerds there. I kinda felt sorry for this one kid standing right behind us because he seemed really smart, but all he talked about was Apple this and Apple that. I wanted to punch him (and so did the other people near me I think).
Anyway, the store is HUGE and the glass cube exterior is really nice. It kinda makes the buildings around it seem really old and ugly. But I kept thinking about how all of this glass and clear stuff will get old really quickly. I don’t know, something about it just isn’t SUPER SUPER new or cool. It’s just done well. I’ll see if I’m wrong in a couple of years I guess.
Because Meggie and I were the first 500 or so to go in, we were able to see lots of famous people and enter our names into the MacBook drawing multiple times each hour (we were supposed to only enter each of our names once every hour…but, well, you know me…).
Who did we see that night? Let me make a list:
- Steve Jobs (I figured he’d be there since he designed this store himself)
- Kevin Bacon
- James Woods (thanks Bran for the name)
- Spike Lee
- John Legend
- Amy Poehler
- Rachel Dratch
- Kanye West
- two of the guys from Queer Eye
Hmm, I believe that is all. You can see my photos of them in the link below. Here is my Flickr photo set of the Apple Store Fifth Avenue grand opening.
- Calvin and Jobs in MAD magazine
- Avenue Bicycles (2007)
- American Apparel coming to 7th Avenue and FIT
