It is raining!
Finding a job this summer is proving to be harder than ever. I am looking nonstop and still there are no available positions that I am suited for. If anything, job hunting has proved to me that I am less qualified for any position than I ever would have thought. What in the world am I learning in school? It seems as if all the essential skills needed for jobs are NOT being taught to me in school. Instead, I am learning about all this other crap that no employer would ever dare ask their employee without anticipating a solid kick in their nuts in response. Really though, I’ve never before felt like school was NOT preparing me for the real-world until this past week. And in terms of internships, there are so many out there, but I think many people label the position as an internship only to get “free” work out of students. Some of these internships are clearly full-time jobs that ask so much, and I’m beginning to think that this is just another way for a company to maximize profits while attempting to cut corners in terms of employee salaries. If I ever own my own company, I swear I’ll never do the things that I’m witnessing now as I search for a job.

A week ago today, our [somewhat] new Honda Pilot got its passenger side window smashed. Funny thing is, nothing was taken from inside the car even though it looked as if the culprits did try to look for something to steal. It felt like such a waste for our window to be broken only to have nothing stolen, but I’m sure a part of me feels good about not having anything taken from me except for the original car window. Anyway, yesterday I brought the car to the glass shop and had the window replaced. In terms of car repairs, the window was fixed fairly quickly and I got the car back on the same day. The car looks new again from the outside, but on the inside, the passenger seat is a bit torn from the initial glass breaking (glass is crazy sharp!). We’re probably gonna try to get insurance to cover the seat replacement as well. :)
The Lonely Island crew has some very funny videos on their website to watch for free! The ‘Bu (The MaliBU) is one of the funnier ones and it’s clearly modeled after those hit teen dramas like The O.C. (and maybe a bit of The Real World angst thrown in, too). In any case, ALL of the productions from this group are funny, and the good thing is, they aren’t very long (hence the “short” aspect of it) so you won’t waste too much time in one sitting. :)
I was watching the Scripps National Spelling Bee on ESPN yesterday with Norman, Eric, and a friend. These kids truly are the nerdiest of nerds, but they definitely make for good television. Seriously, I thought watching a national spelling bee competition would bore me to death, but the exhiliration from watching the event live on TV was almost too much to handle! Apparently, the spelling bee event had international coverage because everybody’s everybody knew about the competition that took place last night. Even my grandma knew of the girl who won (so this means the Chinese newspapers covered the spectacle as well).
I don’t watch ESPN much at all, but yesterday, I just couldn’t seem to stop watching the spelling bee. In case you’re wondering, a young girl by the name of Katharine Close won the competition by spelling U-R-S-P-R-A-C-H-E, going away with $40,000 and a very shiny trophy cup. Now that’s something to tell the kids.
Watch some more spelling bee highlights on the ESPN site.
Eric sent me the video below. He says the girl in it was in his AP bio class in HS. She is insane, truly insane, but hey, she won.
The Back To The Future DeLorean that was taken off eBay is once again on eBay. Current bid price at the time of this post: $35,100. Great scott!
This crystal cave of the giants is probably where Superman was born. The place does look kinda neat though.
Peter links to this website that reveals some truths about The Da Vinci Code. There are some outrageous claims made in the movie simply in order to make the movie plot interesting, but I can understand how some may believe it as plain truth when it is not. So if you’ve got questions after watching (or reading) The Da Vinci Code, check out the site above and hopefully those questions will be cleared up and answered. I’ll admit though, the way the site answers questions by starting with “Consider this” is very very very very annoying. Bullet points would have worked better if they were too lazy to type up a paragraph.
You can read my review of The Da Vinci code in the ‘Movies’ category (on the right side bar).
Readers of doobybrain.com have long known that I am no fan of Motorola phones. However, the rest of the world still seems to be hooked on the fact that the RAZR is clearly the best phone out there (obviously, it is not). What was once [for a very short time] a nice slim phone, the Motorola RAZR is now just an ugly and wide piece of phone history. So it came as a surprise to me when Dolce & Gabbana hooked up with Motorola again to produce a gold and silver version of the RAZR. Can anyone say WORST IDEA EVER? I can. Imagine the personal angst one might go through when they lose this item. HA!
Virginia Beach looks like a good place to be right about now, or any time of the year I bet. :) Mmmmm! It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to a VERY nice beach.
And here’s a heads-up to you New Yorkers: The nicest and closest beach to Manhattan is NOT Long Beach. It is Far Rockaway Beach in Far Rockaway (duh). And how much does it cost to go there? Only but a reasonable $4 round trip by Subway. The only downside is that it takes nearly 2 hours to get there, but hey, can’t have it all now, right?
I once drove Yelena home, and on my way back to the city I had to drive through the horrible hell of roads known as Grand Army Plaza. She had warned me before I left that it would kinda be tricky, but I didn’t think much of it until I had to make several circles and several U-turns just to get myself where I needed to be. The roads (as you can see in the Google Maps image in the above link) are so confusing and the signs aren’t nearly as clear or as big as they need to be so that drivers can see and/or read them in time. I think if I went back to that place again, I would still get lost and I’d probably have to end up calling Yelena again to help me. We’ll see come Wednesday.
Speaking of Yelena, here’s a song by Hellogoodbye that reminds me of the time she came with us to Syracuse for that random trip in the big red van. Haha, that was fun. We should totally do that again, but this time to Boston. Listen to it below:

If there was a good reason for me to put a Google search function on this website, I would so go for this new Google Ajax Search API. It loads the results right below the search box and you can “copy” over search results to use in any way you want. [via]
Here are a few examples of how it can be used, but really the possibilities for this are quite unlimited. If I could work at the Google office in Times Square, I would be so happy. Even if I was there to serve coffee and man the kitchen. Google, are you reading this? Thanks!
The other night, I was at the Yan’s apartment and Meggie and I got a bit curious as to what a vagina was (Meggie’s got one, I think, but she wasn’t sure what it was for). Knowing that Timmy was the expert out of us three, Meggie and I decided to ask him what a vagina was. Here’s Timmy giving us a lesson:
I hate how my voice sounds on video playback. I always think I sound retarded. But wow, that drawing that Timmy made is awesome.
Umm, does anyone know where I can find (and possibly purchase) mascot costumes, or costumes that resemble TV characters (eg: Barney, Clifford, Spongebob, etc.)?
Alright, feel free to leave a comment because that’s what the form below is for! If anyone wants to beach it next week on any day, let me know because I’d be willing to suit up and go with you (and friends, if you have). But if you aren’t up for the beach but are up to just hanging out and doing nothing, let me know too. I’ll do nothing with you. Hot dang, I am a good poet. Later!
I’m having a good time!
