Wow, Friday was jam-packed with all sorts of wild activity. If I were a cup, I’d be overflowing. So here’s how it all went down.
It was early Friday morning (about 3 or so) and Cindy IMs me to tell me that she can’t sleep. So I’m like, “Ok, what do you want me to do about it?” She then asks me if I want to go for a drive, at which point I start thinking about how NOT tired I was and how cool a drive at this time with Cindy might be. So I say, “Sure!” and I head out and get the car to go pick her up. I arrive at her place and she gets in and we just park and play with the radio and talk about how she is unemployed because she quit City Bakery and they told her she doesn’t need to come in anymore. Then, out of nowhere, I decide to start the car and drive and where do we end up? Pathmark under the Manhattan Bridge.
We end up “shopping” and just walking through every single aisle. Have you ever been to Pathmark at 4 something in the morning? It’s totally weird. There are shopping carts lined up back-to-back in each aisle with goods so that employees working the night shift can restock for the next day. But the biggest different I took note of was the loud music playing through the radios and the PA system in the store. It was quite amusing. Cindy and I bumped into one of her friend’s dad too, which was weird, because it was 4 in the morning and he was shopping with some folks. Anyway, seeing him really held us up because we couldn’t leave. He was in line forever it seemed, and there wasn’t even anybody in the store or line in front of him to hold him up. I have no idea what he was doing.

We had enough of Pathmark so we left, but when we got out we noticed that sunlight was starting to creep in and we decided to head over to South Street Seaport to watch the sunrise. Seaport was really nice at around 5AM. It’s dead silent except for the few morning hour workers cleaning and setting boats. There were also a few Asian folks there who apparently thought fishing off of the Seaport pier was a good idea (they are crazy…and there are probably no fish there). I think what made Seaport really nice was the sunrise though. It made the sky “picture-perfect” and the outlines of the various NYC bridges were just beautiful.

We went back to hang out in the car for a little bit and around 6AM we left to go find some food. The Food Emporium on 14th street served as our breakfast stop–not a good idea because the breakfast we got served was kinda gross. Then I rented a 28-105mm USM Canon lens from Alkit (I wanted the 28-135mm IS, but it was reserved) to use on Saturday for a dance recital in Chinatown.
Stopping by Cindy’s house again to drop her off, I told her that I needed to go upstairs and relieve myself. Upon entering her house, her mom sees me and she says “GEET JAI” and I’m like wow, you remember my chinese name. Haha, it was so weird. I haven’t seen her in so long and she remembered my chinese name. I peed. I left.
Got home, fooled around on the computer a bit. Got tired (I hadn’t slept yet). Went to sleep for about 30 minutes. Woke up again, talked to Joyce and Eric. Told Joyce I’d drive to Queens to pick her up. Did so and ate a bacon-cheese hot-pocket sandwich and drank some homemade blueberry shake. YUM. By the way, the Shen’s have an AWESOME uphill driveway. I definitely felt like I was in an SUV when I parked there!
After hanging out at Joyce’s for a bit and telling her about my job description (dongles and all), we left and tried to find our way to Flushing to reach a Verizon store so she could activate her phone. I ended up driving the wrong way on Main street for a very long time. But thanks to Eric for helping me find the way!
Fixed phone. Drove home! No traffic, whee! I really do like driving. I drove every single day this week. Fantacular! :)
At home, Joyce, Steph, and I watched the 2006 Scripps Spelling Bee. Man, it’s still funny to me! Those kids are the definition of awkward! Actually, Steph and Joyce watched the spelling bee. I kinda passed out and fell asleep for 20 minutes.
Counting the 30 minutes from this afternoon, I totalled a whopping 50 minutes of good sleep for Friday. I woke up and we all went to Stromboli’s to eat some Pizza and then to Jenny’s to get some bubble tea. Ehh, Stromboli’s wasn’t too good that night but whatever. I hung out with the trusty old ATM in the store while Joyce and Steph tried to talk to me. But nothing could get me away from that ATM. It was so nice. But I managed to talk to them about funny things. We trotted over to the DeLaVega store and picked up some free chalk with which we went ahead and wrote “DONGLE” on someone’s stoop. I then proceeded to add “PIMP SMACK YO” before the “DONGLE”. To us, it was the funniest thing ever. Look for it if it’s not already washed away by the morning rain.
It was an extremely great Friday that spanned a great many hours with very little sleep. I was surprised I was even able to drive so much on so little sleep. Kinda dangerous I know, but honestly, I wasn’t tired at all when I drove. I think driving just makes me awake. I told Cindy that we should definitely try to do this again someday, but knowing how we work, hmm, I then told her that we shouldn’t try to do this, just so we would get a chance to do it.
JOYCE/STEPH: Send me photos so I can post.
