The virtual life is a good life to live
Ok, so I’ve been contemplating whether or not I should move my mail client completely over to Gmail. Logistically, it is very easy for me to do because all I have to do is set up forwarding on one email account to direct all mail to my Gmail account. I guess the natural path of technology has led me to lead a very vritualized life. Google, in particualr has taken all of my information and organizational outlets and put them online for me to use and access from anywhere at any time. More specifically, the onslaught of services popping up lately that have allowed me to access my information from anywhere have really made my life easier and more organized.
Gtalk has been a staple on my PC desktop ever since it became a public application. Its live updating of incoming mail is so useful and its integration with Gmail is just another reason why I am giving this whole thing a try. I think the only reason why I haven’t done this sooner is because before Gmail, I honestly thought e-mail was quite crappy. QUITE crappy. But Gmail helped push the boundary of how functional online e-mail can be. I think it’s a good thing.
So after much consideration, I think I am going to run a week test on sending and checking ALL of my mail from Gmail. Hopefully, I’ll have a good experience and choose to stick with having all my email online.
The world still isn’t quite like how I imagine a “connected society” being, but if me making the move over to an online-based e-mail system is any indication, I think the world is going in the right direction.
