Maury - Pickle, Bird, Mustard, Dog, and Balloon Phobia

Ok, I just saw this and I couldn’t help but post it. Coupled with the Connie Chung video from yesterday, I can now easily believe that Maury and Connie are out of their minds. Maury’s show is so stupid. This portion of an episode however is just too funny. Maury basically taunts a woman who has an extreme phobia of pickles. It’s the most ridiculous phobia I’ve ever heard of. Pickles don’t even move! [via]

This sounds weird, but I’d like to know how this really feels to have a phobia as extreme as this. It’s just so hilarious that Maury enjoys “torturing” them with their phobias. I can’t stop laughing at these women and at the same time, I can’t stop feeling bad for them either. Then I think about how stupid these fears are, and I don’t feel so bad anymore.

Hey,

I have a bad phobia of balloons. I think one popped in my face when I was very young and I have never liked them, since then.

It’s really easy for people to take the piss when it comes to things like this - do you think I LIKE having this fear? Especially as it’s deemed as irrational. Believe me, the fear I feel if I see one is far from irrational, it’s very, very real.

When I feel ’stupid’ about having this fear, I think about all the things that I can do, that other people may not be able to do/have a fear of. I have no problems playing solo piano in front of 2,000 people, or singing/acting in front of a packed theatre. I know a lot of people who would be terrified to do those things.

I look at it that maybe I have a ’silly’ fear, but at least I can do something pretty special, to almost make up for it.

My toddler will start to be interested in balloons soon, so I want to sort the problem before it escalates.
