I love Bill Clinton. He is awesome! :D
The video above shows Bill Clinton talking to Jon Stewart about the Clinton Global Initiative, a non-partisan project dedicated to energy and climate change (protecting the earth), global health, poverty alleviation, and mitigating regligious and ethnic conflict. If there’s one person who can bring the world’s wealthy together onto one platform, it is no doubt going to be Bill Clinton. Watch a video about the Clinton Global Initiative here. The video is engaging to say the least and extremely moving. I could, however, do without the U2 music… -_-
The 2nd annual Clinton Global Initiative is going on now in NYC! It will end on September 22. Read more on Wikipedia if you want.
NOTE TO SELF: Do not video tape myself trespassing into dangerous territory and then upload it to YouTube.
Princeton University, as well as other notable Ivy Leagues and fine educational institutions, have dropped early admissions altogether. More and more schools are thinking about doing the same. And still, more are considering the consequences of such a world they have helped to create: where poor students are given the boot because they do not have sufficient time to assess financial aid for early acceptances while students who are not financially dependent on aid are given scholarships because their parents have large cheese stacks.
At the meeting in New York, the presidents said they spelled out their concerns over families’ paying of thousands of dollars for private college counselors, obstacles for low-income applicants and tactics some colleges use to rise in the U.S. News & World Report rankings. They spoke of efforts to drive up a college’s number of applications, so it can turn away a greater proportion of students and appear more selective, or to distribute merit aid to lure students who are top notch but not financially needy.
Princeton, in announcing its decision yesterday, said it agreed with Harvard that early admissions forced low-income students to commit to the university before they could compare financial aid offers from various universities.
If schools were truly focused on educating the student rather than making money and doing business, then I believe more kids would jump aboard and finish school in one year. Unfortunately for many of us, schools are in the business of making money, and in order to do that, they must keep us for at least 4 years and string us to our knees in debt and/or payments, even if we wanted to add on more classes. More classes usually means more money, which is totally understandable, but not when there is a cap on how many credits you can take. It’s that darn annual tuition fee that gets us all, not the price of individual credits/classes.
Ok, maybe I’m slow, but I didn’t know that you could sign in to Writely with your Google Account log-in! I knew Google had acquired Writely, but I had no idea they implemented the same log-in system to the site too! This is good news because I was previously just waiting for someone to invite me in to test it. I just played around with it for a bit and I must say, this online word processor is powerful. Coupled with Google Spreadsheets, these two online apps could be killer!
Somebody was sneaky enough to grab a hold of Burger King’s coupon code book and found out a way to get free Whopper sandwiches whenever you want (with the purchase of any size fry or drink). Now now, it isn’t all bad. There’s some good suggestions in the comments to use the free burgers as food for the homeless — you know, like a modern-day Robin Hood…but with food. If that doesn’t morally bother you, then definitely jump on and do it. I might.
People who share a bed, and the things they say about it. Two in a Bed is a book by Dr. Rosenblatt, who studied the social aspects of couples who share a bed and sleep together. Rosenblatt hopes that this book will encourage scientists and researchers to study couples who share a bed instead of merely focusing on individual sleeping habits and marriage relationships outside of the bedroom.
“My hope is that the book will influence the world of sleep research so sleep is no longer viewed as an individual phenomenon,” Dr. Rosenblatt said.
There are thousands of studies on sleep and even more on marriage and relationships, but only a handful on couples sleeping together.
In researching his book, Dr. Rosenblatt said even though many couples said they slept better alone, they still shared a bed. “When I asked why, they looked at me as if I’d asked them why they keep breathing,” he said.
“Some mentioned sex, but not a lot,” Dr. Rosenblatt said. Most reported that the bed is where they talked. “The bed is where they found privacy and were able to leave behind the distractions and separate interests that keep them apart during the day. There’s also something about late night that allowed them to open up and connect.”
And hey, if you actually read the NYT article you’ll realize that sleeping together has actually saved some people’s lives! WOW!
Also don’t forget that the way in which you sleep might say something about you!
These French iPod cases remind me of the felt iPod case Yelena made for me when I first got my iPod. I kept telling her that she should develop and make a line of these felt cases and sell them! Now look at what procrastination has done to her idea! Somebody else has jumped on it! NOOOOOOO!!!!

Some girl in my class bought a Samsung NV10 and opened it in class and was playing with it today!!! I’m usually a pretty hardcore Canon fan if I can help myself, but I’ll admit that this Samsung camera really beats most of the other compact digital cams out on the market at the moment. Plus, it’s got that splash of old-school styling and modern slickness all mashed together in a nice package. I would totally buy this if I found the exact amount of cash. DPReview’s got some specs on the camera. TechEBlog also has a hands-on demonstration of the Samsung NV10 camera menu and it’s intuitive touch interface.
50 Cent (the rapper) commissioned Alsa to turn his Lamborghini into a moving sun spot! The entire car is painted chrome!! That’s so cool!
This Burton Mansfield camo print cap is kinda neat.
This Penguin knit cap with visor in wood brown is nice too (I might buy this — maybe, probably).
I have a hard time believeing people are stupid enough to send in these ridiculous excuses to teachers. But hey, it could happen. Thanks Jess!
Ben Folds brought in 3 random drummers into the studio to record a cover of Such Great Heights by The Postal Service. It’s pretty good, so go take a listen. You can also download the mp3 here if you want.
