Here’s what I’ve been working on…
So some of you know, some of you don’t, but I’ve actually been enjoying school lately. Sure, the work is tiresome at times, but it is enough fun that I don’t really care. As always, there are the mundane and boring photo assignments (and papers), but in between those assignments are some really fantastic projects I get to get my hands dirty with. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this is my best work, but it sure has been some of the most fun so far as a Parsons student.
If you regularly check my Flickr account, you might have already seen some of these since they were uploaded over the course of the past few weeks. But this is the first time they’ve been featured here on Doobybrain (they’ve been shown on Facebook as well, for those of you who are on that network).
The following series of long-exposure shots were taken a while back, but I recently reused them for a small project involving night lights. I intend to completely re-manufacture this look and feel some day before I move to the new apartment.

To achieve the above photos, I just tripped the shutter and ran around quickly with an LED flashlight in my hand. You can try it out on your own. It’s not very hard to do, really.

While it is nothing spectacular, just know that this cloud photo took a very long time to capture exactly the way I wanted. So even if it does look like every other cloud photo you may have seen before, to me, this photo isn’t.

Here’s a saturation test I did. This was taken across the street from PS1 MoMA. I just like the photo for what it’s worth.
The following two photos were for a fill-flash assignment with a hand-held strobe. It was one of my first official assignments of the Fall 2006 semester. I like the “look” these have. That’s all.

Thanks Jo for being a willing body model.
The next two photos are selects from a large batch of photos where I had to completely blow out a white backdrop with two studio strobes and then fill in the subject with a fill flash strobe unit (3 strobes all at once, basically). This project and another project like it are what made me really love working in the studio and shooting fashion advertisements/products.

Thanks Pam & Mel for being willing guinea pigs. And seriously, sorry for all the flashing. Thank goodness neither of you had a seizure because of it.
This last batch of photos are all from the same project where I had to create a narrative with 3 or more images [Dictionary.com definition of 'narrative']. It was truly a two-week BS assignment in which my first batch of photos were hideous. But the photos below were from the 2nd week and I like these a lot more than the first.

Here’s the full narrative put together and to-be printed on 13″x19″ paper. Not huge, but still big enough for what I need it for.

This photo of a tree was not in the full narrative, but I just happened to capture this while standing in the rain with my sister, Emily, holding an umbrella over me.

This is the scene right in front of my house. These two photos did not make it into the full narrative above (the ones in the narrative above are a bit different). Where do you get colors like this though, huh? :)
Alright, that’s what I’ve been up to in terms of school work. Feel free to click on the images and see them at full size. Take care, ya’ll!
