Words first and then pictures later

My sincere apologies for those of you who are sick of reading about the Virginia Tech massacre. I do not continue to write about the events of this past week in order to make you all jaded to the violent acts themselves. I am simply writing about it because I know of no other way to express my thoughts about the subject (as coherent or incoherent as they may be).

Anyway, before you keep reading, just please don’t forget to ask people around you how they are doing every once in a while. And when you do it, be totally sincere about asking it. You never know how far a simple act such as that can go.
It’s always hindsight that kicks us in the butt about it. It’s better to do it right the first time.

This is absolutely beautiful.
Also, the Virginia Tech website has completely changed. It is now a tribute page of sorts to the victims of this past Monday’s shootings. It is a strikingly beautiful contrast of simple black and white text and an image. I think it’s very appropriate for the school to do this instead of showing their usual front page. Virginia Tech also has a separate “tragedy” page with more info for students.

CNN has a page dedicated to those that were killed.
The New York Times has a dedication page for every single victim of Monday’s massacre.
Just a note: Lately, the NYT has been putting out some fantastic info-graphics and charts and interactive media (here’s another example). This victim page is no exception. It’s as simple as it gets and it’s also as clear as it gets.

And finally, something about the family members of Cho Seung-Hui: his older sister and his whole family. I was talking to Esther about it this morning and found it so weird that the media had not been able to contact any members of the family. Now we know why. They are in an “undisclosed location” for protection.

By the way, I really wanted to punch Chris Matthews, the host of Hardball yesterday because he was seriously asking the DUMBEST questions ever to Cho Seung-Hui’s suitemate. Chris Matthews kept asking questions that you could just tell wanted to lead into something else (like video game violence or a failed female relationship of Cho Seung-Hui’s recent past). Good thing that his suitemate didn’t fall into Matthews’ stupid verbal traps. I hate Hardball.

Why is Meet The Robinsons not playing in ANY theater in NYC?! The movie has officially been released since March 30th, but why hasn’t it shown up in any NYC theaters?! I want to watch this movie!!

Why would anybody want Wikipedia on DVD? If you’re gonna use Wikipedia on DVD (it’s a collection of only 2,000 hand-picked articles), then you might as well step back into time and take out your Britannica encyclopedias.

I think Xanga’s golden days are officially over. -_-
Why does Sony even bother anymore with these new PSP firmware updates? I think my PSP (wherever it is…) is still at firmware v1.5! Hahahaha!

Man, the list of Family Guy characters on Wikipedia is extensive.

If you live in Canada, you have a chance to win one of six Wii’s adorned in artwork from six different artists. It is part of Nintendo’s Art of Wii contest. One of the six is shown above. These are pretty neat I guess. Contest is only open to Canadian residents.

The Super Mario 64 Soundtrack is fun to listen to. I am such a nerd.
It’s not on sale anywhere, so I just downloaded it ILLEGALLY. Ask me for it if you want it. It’s nice. :)

A take on the classic As Seen On TV name, this T-shirt from the Chop Shop advertises you (or at least the shirt) as something seen on the WWW. Neat.

Haha, Peter shaved his head.

The photographic work of Mark Luthringer really reminds me of the work of the Bechers (see some work of their typologies here). Mark Luthringer’s photographic “study” on the excess resulting from mass consumption in today’s American culture can be seen in his project called Ridgemont Typologies.

One of Mark Luthringer’s collection of photos is called “team colors“. It looks soooo much like a project I did for my freshman seminar class. It’s really uncanny and weird how much his and mine look so alike!

Remember when I shot I Shot My Wife? Well, that’s been taken down. What’s left now is just an eerie outline of the ad that used to be there.
By the way, I have officially been running the photoblog from hermanyung.com for over a month straight now. Whee! It’s been fun. Keep visiting every day!

If you haven’t noticed, lately I’ve been publishing more and more posts per day (which means more posts per week, too). At first, I didn’t want to do my updates in this way because I would rather see them all in one post per day (maybe 2, at most). But after a week or two of just posting whenever I felt like it, I think I’ve come to like posting in this way. Sure, it breaks up my posts a bit, but it allows me to pass on stuff to my readers quicker instead of waiting for an entire post to be finished. So…if you’re still checking the site once a day, you should break that habit, because it’s likely I’ll continue posting more frequently. Be sure to read past the “movies” section, as that’ll appear after every top post. There’s probably stuff below it you haven’t seen yet.
