Goodbye Surprise! (*UPDATED!!!!*)

This summer has so far been very sweet. It feels as if I’ve been on some kind of natural high ever since finishing my last final of the Spring 2007 school year at Parsons sometime in mid-May. Since then, I’ve just been enjoying myself in the company of friends, hanging out, playing Wii, eating a lot, and playing competitive games of Tetris DS. That’s not all I’ve been doing of course. I’ve also been sticking in some last-minute Australia errands and finalizing the details of my upcoming year abroad in the land down under.

Like I said, this summer has been so sweet. I’d describe it like Magnolia-cupcake-sweet if only Magnolia cupcakes were even half as good as they looked (which they aren’t). So I guess I could describe this summer thus far as sweet-like-syrup-over-buttered-French-toast. Yeah, I think that describes it well both in texture and personal enjoyment. :)

Anyway, back to the topic that is the title of this entry…the GOODBYE SURPRISE!

On Sunday, June 24, 2007, some of my closest friends threw me an early send-off party complete with whipped cream, icing, cake, pizza, and video games!!

After church, I got a call from Josh asking me if I was around. I told him I was and that he should come over to chill since he’s only in the city on weekends. I had no idea he was in on the whole surprise. Around the same time, Yelena calls me and asks me if she can stop by, and of course, I tell her she can. I also have no idea she is in on the same surprise.

So Yelena, Josh, Yangie, and I are chilling in my room and just catching up and the next thing I know, Yelena goes out of my room to answer a phone call. On the phone were Joyce, Melanie, Flo, Corey, and Justin who were telling Yelena to prep and get ready for the big surprise.

Yelena goes out of my room and buzzes the rest of them into my apartment. Unfortunately for them, I hear the elevator door (I have special ears for hearing the elevator door close) and I walk out to see who came in, thinking that it might be one of my brothers. I then see Joyce and Corey trying to desperately find a place to hide but it was too late–I had already seen them. At this point I think, Hmm…cool! More people are here, but that’s not all. I hear lots of shuffling noises from behind the kitchen counter and I look over and I am greeted by a loud and rambunctious “SURPRISE!”

This whipped-cream cake goes straight into my face…

YUM! I wasn’t cooperating (or hearing Joyce telling me to sniff the cake) so they just went ahead and smashed it into my face.

There was a real cake too.

Here’s the delicious Funfetti cake with Tetris blocks adorning the outer edge.

They even drew an LOLCat and a kangaroo for my Australian trip!

Ahh, I love my friends and the silly things they do (ie: Watching American History X at a party). But still, that’s why I love them, because they’re always up for video games, food, and hanging out.

Thanks to Joyce for the photos!
