Tuesdays are incredibly I’m making these titles NO SENSE yeah!

Ha! This MAD TV Grey’s Anatomy spoof is so funny. Look at Sandra Oh’s character, Christina! And Meredith! LOLLERCOASTER!!

The Simpsons movie is probably one of the most anticipated movies of this entire year. And within days of its release, there are already torrents with CAM versions online (probably incredibly unclear and not worth downloading at all). Anyway, The Pirate Bay has put out a Simpsons-themed logo to commemorate the Simpsons movie torrents readily available to all.

Not much to be said about this: the world’s largest ketchup packet.
Here’s the press release from Heinz:

The estimated 1,500 lb. Heinz Ketchup packet will stand 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 9 ½ inches thick and is expected to make Guinness Book history. This larger-than-life-size packet will contain nearly 130 gallons of Heinz Ketchup and serve as the key ingredient for a community-wide festival and local school fundraiser.

That’s too much ketchup! Too much!

So I’m taking this class called Popular Culture and the Moving Image, and in it we discuss how video and film give tribute to each other by incorporating certain elements of style and cinematic references. In particular, the video above is directly taken from the original Gene Kelly Singing In The Rain sequence. The only difference is that Volkswagen decided to add a bit of modern flair to their commercial. It’s not a big revelation, but the reason why companies do this is so that they can immediately establish familiarity and knowledge (quality, presence, nostalgia, etc.) connected to a product. Advertisers are keen at using this technique. This class makes me watch TV differently than I used to. I can’t really explain it, but it’s enlightening in that small, weird sort of way.

If anybody wants an invite to try Pownce, I have 10 to give away. Leave a comment and I’ll send you one.

hot-wheels-ad.jpg
These Hot Wheels ads really hit close to him. I find them perfectly executed because they bring back great memories of when I used to play with little cars and “vroom and zoom” all over the furniture and objects in my house. I made a racetrack out of everything and anything. It was good!

Everybody should go to the Sprinkles cupcake website right now and vote for New York City to be the next location to have a Sprinkles cupcake location to be open! I know NYC may be saturated with cupcake locations, but this place looks great enough to stand out on its own!!

Relax, this is the food is makes sense now!

I’m going to find a job in Melbourne. It’s great that the schooling system here in Australia basically encourages students to both go to classes and maintain a job. It’s not like the US where depending on your major, you are basically chained to schoolwork for 36 hours a day, 8 days a week. So yes, I am going to find a job. I’m excited (but this will definitely mean that I will need one more suitcase to go home with). Drop a line here if you’re in the Melbourne area and know of any good openings, although I hear from most people that it’s usually quite a cinch to find a job. Good news. :)

I just felt like posting this video again because I like watching it. Hehehehehehehehe.

Here’s another great song from the latest Maroon 5 album. This particular track is only on the Australian release! Thanks Flo! :)

If anybody cares to look, I just updated my friend wheel on Facebook. Hahaha, I’m so bored.

I’m loving the continual release of pre-airs of Weeds!! Here is episode 4! I hope they don’t stop!

startrail.jpg
Hey! If you want your mouse pointer to resemble a gay little fairy, then you should definitely install Startrail (Sorry, Macs only)! I just installed this on the Mac here at school and it’s so funny. I’m going to do this to every Mac I use here.

This project is a great take on traditional urban photography. Way to use negative space, yeah?

This will be the last sentence written in this post.

Lately all I see is a shade of color

Christian clubbing is going to be the biggest and baddest…oh my goodness, who am I kidding? CHRISTIAN CLUBBING?!?!

Silent Star Wars

There’s Harlem. And then there’s 13-Gigapixels Harlem. Wonderful, wonderful!

life-after-death.jpg
This is the ugliest New York Times info-graphic I’ve ever seen. In an article titled, Eternity For Atheists, the New York Times examines how the idea of an immortal life, or life after death, became such a big deal to people who believe in it and people who do not believe it in.

Curiously, the doctrine of immortality is more a pagan legacy than a religious one. The notion that each of us is essentially an immortal soul goes back to Plato. Whereas the body is a compound thing that eventually falls apart, Plato argued, the soul is simple and therefore imperishable. Contrast this view with that of the Bible. In the Old Testament there is little mention of an afterlife; the rewards and punishments invoked by Moses were to take place in this world, not the next one. Only near the beginning of the Christian era did one Jewish sect, the Pharisees, take the afterlife seriously, in the form of the resurrection of the body. The idea that “the dead shall be raised” was then brought into Christianity by St. Paul.

ferris-wheel.jpg
I could say that my love for Ferris Wheels was revived this past Summer when I went on the Wonder Wheel in Coney Island. It’s scary and exciting, and despite all the yelling I did (Corey too! Hahaha), I still enjoyed the ride around on it. Those swinging cars on the Wonder Wheel are so crazy. I love Coney Island!
Check out the NYT slideshow presentation on the Ferris Wheel’s history. There are some great photos there.

Wow. Just wow. Watch this speed painting of Bumblebee from Transformers.

New secrets here if you care!

HA! Here’s what happens when you add 200+ Facebook applications to your Facebook profile page. Man, that profile page gets incredibly long…and boring.

Some things I’ve picked up about eggs

July 30, 2007 @ 12:54 am

So there’s this report in Time magazine about how many people these days are looking to internet search engines for answers to many of life’s biggest (or silliest) questions.

Search engines have gone way beyond a simple tool to find information. We might search for a website that we can’t remember, a factoid for a report, or movie times for the local theater. More and more, we are turning to search engines for more involved queries, posing philosophical questions (why?) or at times searching for instruction (How to…?).

So in celebration of how the internet has become the new-age school, here are a list of things I just learned about eggs:

  • Putting salt on an open egg wound while boiling can prevent the egg from seaping out of the shell crack
  • The “rule” that I always knew of running a boiled egg until cold water to make it easier to peel is often looked down upon (especially in restaurants) because bacteria can seep in through the semi-porous shell and contaminate the edible portion of the egg.
  • Pouring vinegar in the water can sometimes prevent an egg from cracking in the boiling water.
  • To tell the difference between a hard-boiled egg and a normal egg, you can spin the egg like a top on the counter — the hard-boiled egg will continue spinning fast while the non-cooked egg will slow down and/or not spin correctly at all. I tried this and it proves true!
  • Boiling eggs at HI heat will cook the white portion faster than the yolk, often leaving the yolk a scrumptious and delicious fluid! YUM!

Enjoy your eggs!

Hmm! I didn’t know Simon uploaded this video. Well, now it’s posted here! Norman is in this video too.

Telstra is totally retarded. There’s another great example of how Australia restricts internet. Gay gay gay. Homosexual gay. Homosexual gay guy guy guy gay. Yeah, that’s Telstra. I’m about to drop Telstra when I use up all the minutes on this sim card. Then I’m gonna move to Vodafone.

calling-the-world.jpg
Rooney has a new album out called Calling The World, and it’s pretty fantastic. Ask me if you want to download it. I have it in a secret location. I don’t support piracy. Don’t label me a pirate. I am just a messenger — a passer-of-information. Nothing more.
By the way, the album is $7.99 on Amazon.com!!! You can’t really beat that price.

Universal Music Group is being really dumb and not letting people embed the music video to Rooney’s first single off the new album, so go here if you want to see the music video for When Did Your Heart Go Missing?

Search Google in a new and entirely dark way with Blackle. It’s deemed as power-saving…but really, who are we kidding now?

Ok, first of all, what in the world would make prisoners in a Philippines prison want to collectively dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller? Second, how do they even go about trying to organize this without the other prisoners beating them up for asking the question? And third, why are Asian people so crazy?

dramatic-chipmunk-tee.jpg
HA! Busted Tees made a Dramatic Chipmunk t-shirt! Fantastic! I so want to buy this!!! Price: $15.99 USD.

OMG. I’m going to post a photo of my face soon, and I want everybody to tell me if I got FATTER because I honestly think I have since arriving in Melbourne. Maybe when I get back to NYC I’ll be fat enough to be American.

Your discount super duper center middle how are you?

July 27, 2007 @ 5:56 pm

I always figured there was a reason why along with external email access, RMIT was also blocking access to Meebo. It’s because Meebo is the fastest growing chat client! Man, the RMIT network really sucks. Actually, in general, Australian access to internet just sucks. Hahahaha…only one year…only one year…

Whee! Flickr has updated their slideshow settings.

Have you Facebook users noticed the new “add attachment” button in your Wall area? Apparently, you can now add videos or extended linkage with your wall post. For example, instead of just linking to a video, you can now embed the video in the actual wall post so that people can see the video straight from within the wall section. Neat, I guess, but crazy annoying when the wall section looks like YouTube.

Crap. Starbucks is raising the price of their drinks an additional 9 cents! Aren’t they expensive enough already?! Thanks Yelena for the heads up!

Here’s what happens when you get a bunch of really really good trampoline gymnasts to recreate traditional video effects. [via]

sonic-chair.jpg
Oh my gosh! Imagine playing a video game or watching a movie while sitting in the Sonic Chair, a chair that looks like the cup of a headphone! You can get some great headphones here.

Mmmm, Qantas looks new. I may be flying them come Summer to go to Sydney or New Zealand.

I don’t know why it’s happening now, but I’m loving how the RSS feeds for my posts go live immediately after publishing the post. Previously, it took a few minutes for them to begin showing up on RSS readers. Oh, and I think all of my images (whether they be gifs or jpgs) should now be showing up.

Ever since watching the Transformers movie on Wednesday, I’ve sort of been a bit Transformers-crazy. I just went on Amazon.com looking for toys from the movie. Of course, I came across a pretty good Optimus Prime and this fun little Optimus Prime voice changer helmet-mask thing.

transformers-ultimate-bumblebee.jpg
Then, I came across this: Transformers Movie Ultimate Bumblebee. It was the most expensive of all the toys and for good reason too! It’s so detailed and it looks like it’s made from better materials than the other toys listed through Amazon.com. It is currently on pre-order for about $89.99 at the Hasbro website (it gets released September 21). I mean, wow, look at that thing. I wonder if they’ll make other cast members from the movie like this too. That’d be pretty neat.

I promise some kind of Melbourne update soon. I have half of my pictures uploaded already…now all that is left to do is put some captions and commentary to it in a post. Problem is, RMIT is being a little baby and not letting me upload to Flickr (or Facebook even!!). WTF. What kind of University is this?! This is like the opposite of Parsons; great classes, great people, but sucky internet. Give me a break!!

Is there good free wifi anywhere in this city (other than the State Library)?
