Audio Adrenaline’s final farewell CD came out on August 28, 2007. As I listened to this album, I actually got sad because I knew that the fact that this CD exists means that Audio Adrenaline will probably never write or perform any new music ever again. In a very weird way, this album is very moving. I can’t really say that an album has ever moved me to tears, but I’ll say if any album comes close to doing so, then this must be it.
Without sounding sarcastic, I want to say that Audio Adrenaline holds a special place in my life. As it so happened, Audio Adrenaline’s “Get Down” was the first song I ever played on the drums. That was the song that got me rhythmically oriented on the set, and it’s the song I always think of when I’m helping somebody on the drums.
Live From Hawaii just reminds you — in one great package — why Audio Adrenaline is heralded as one of the most influential Christian bands to date. In my opinion, their energy, song-writing and musical abilities surpass those of many other bands in other genres of music.
As you may have heard, Audio Adrenaline had to call it quits early last year because Mark Stuart, the lead singer, had progressive vocal cord damage due to extensive touring and singing. If you didn’t believe the reason given, then you surely will once you listen to Live From Hawaii. Mark Stuart’s vocals are almost gone, completely raspy and hoarse, and despite all that, he sings and gives it his all in this final Audio Adrenaline performance. It’s probably the worst sounding Audio Adrenaline CD ever, but I’d dare to say that it’s also probably one of their best.
If you’re an Audio Adrenaline fan, then this CD is a must-have, commemorating and capping off more than a decade of great hits. This live CD covers all of their hit singles since their first album. The listening experience will leave you satisfied — and saddened — once you realize that their single “Goodbye” is also their final salute to the fans for an amazing musical career. What a great way to go. :)
