I’m actually working off of a ThinkPad at the moment. But not a ThinkPad Reserve Edition laptop!
If you’ve got $5000 to spare, go ahead and purchase a ThinkPad Reserve Edition notebook computer that will be outdated in the next year or so. The $5000 price tag pays mostly for the unique leather-bound exterior, made by expert saddle makers. Oh, the leather is also stitched and bound by a traditional Japanese stitch, which as everybody knows, is also going to add to that hefty price.
Basically, everything that’s special about this laptop is “hand-crafted” in some way. And if that doesn’t impress you, then maybe the personal computer technician will.
From the press release:
Clad in hand-stitched, saddle-grade premium French leather, each Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve Edition notebook is individually numbered and comes with live, round-the-clock executive-class service and support. Each ThinkPad Reserve user is provided a dedicated, specially-trained PC support specialist that is available at the touch of a button, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure that users are fully supported in every aspect of their ThinkPad computing experience.

Since there’s only 5000 of these laptops being sold, I guess Lenovo could sacrifice 5000 employees to sit around and do nothing but wait for those 5000 ThinkPad Reserve Edition owners to push that assistance button. This is like OnStar for your laptop!
Check out the ThinkPad Reserve Edition in this very crappy and small illustration library at Lenovo, or see them in hi-res glory in this Flickr photoset.
