The other day, Simon sent me a link to marryourdaughter.org, a site that advertises young girls as potential brides for those who can fork over the money.
The site was clean, organized, and informative, and could very well have been a real website if it were not for the content. The idea that this website would exist as reality just seemed too far off track. So I knew something was fishy was going on but didn’t bother to investigate further. I just closed the website.
As it turns out, I just read news that marryourdaughter.org is in fact a hoax. The creator of the website has obviously fooled many people into believe that the website is for real and has in turn suffered the wrath of such gullible readers.
John Ordover, the creator of the site, says that the idea was meant to raise awareness about the silly marriage laws that exist within certain states; a woman as young as 12 can get married with parental and judicial consent but it is illegal for a man to have sex with minors.
Well, if all turns out well, it looks like Mr. Ordover may have gotten his point across. Fair enough. Let’s move on.
