Japanese Dual Mode Vehicle can travel on road and track
The Japanese DMV — for Dual Mode Vehicle — is both a bus and a train car. It is a testing vehicle for a new form of hybrid transportation alternatives. The tests have been running since at least late 2004. Beneath the vehicle is a set of steel wheels like that of a standard train car. When arriving at a loading station, the steel wheels drop down from beneath the vehicle and hoist the vehicle up on the tracks (this is done with minimal disturbance to the passengers).
It’s all cool of course, but man, does it have to look that ugly?
- 1000-pound pumpkin dropped on a bus
- Liquid stainless steel
- Have you ever seen a Ferrari station wagon?
- Two new tunnels under the Hudson River
- Cars are no match for trolleys
