I really can’t get enough of the great desktop web applications that are sprouting up because of Adobe AIR technology. For the most part, most of them are very cool and very useful.
One of these is the eBay Desktop application which is built with Adobe AIR. Many of the Adobe AIR applications seem to simply extend the usefulness of a website or service, but eBay Desktop could almost completely replace the eBay website.
eBay Desktop is just that awesome. Think of it as your personal eBay assistant all-in-one, sitting in your system tray until just when you need it. From the application, you can do all of the eBay basics like search, see your account, manage your watched items, and bid/buy items.
The funny thing is that the eBay Desktop application is actually [at the time of this post] better than the eBay website. Searching for things is easier and more intuitive, not to mention less of a hassle (I don’t have to open separate tabs for different items, nor do I have to keep clicking the back button to return to search results).
Please remember though that eBay Desktop and Adobe AIR are both in beta, so there will be bugs and there will be things that are incomplete. But so far, using eBay Desktop has been quite a breeze. No complaints from me! And if this is just a peek at the beta, then I can’t wait to see what this application becomes when it gets out of beta.
If you haven’t already, download and install Adobe AIR and then give eBay Desktop a spin. It’s totally worth it if you’re a big eBay user.
