Thursday tip

I don’t really use Yahoo! Mail, but I keep the account around for two main reasons. One, because I already have the account since I use Flickr (which is Yahoo!-owned); and two, because I like playing with all the new stuff that Yahoo! Mail seems to put out every once in a while.
Lately though, they asked me to switch to the local Australian version of Yahoo! which is partnered with Channel 7. I politely declined and then thought about how everything is localized nowadays — and how that makes things a bit annoying for me, a non-Australian. For example, Google automatically makes my “.com” into a “.com.au” when I go to their search engine. To them, this means convenience, but to me, this means inconvenience, especially since “local” Australian results pop up first in the results list. And, sorry to say, but everybody knows that big news hardly ever happens in Australia, so having those sources come up first is kind of just a hassle to sort through.
Anyway, I understand that maybe localizing stuff means a faster web experience for me (maybe), but…I’d just like to stay in regular “.com” territory. Thanks!
Big explosion.
Concept cars will never turn out looking this good.
Could this be the rising tide of consumer non-conformity? “I don’t like the idea that nearly everyone has an iPod. I feel this way about other things, too. I appreciate obscurity.” This article points towards some consumers’ disapproval of having something that everybody else seems to have. Weird, I guess the iPod isn’t so “cool” after all.
Hehe, Oreo.
This is probably the stupidest infographic I’ve seen in a long time. Talk about random and unrelated store choices!
Maybe this is how an Apple Store at 34th Street might have looked like.
No Ideas But In Things is a great blog showcasing nothing but user interface design through buttons, meters, lights, and screens. Check this one out!
Another Sony BRAVIA commercial. This one takes place in Egypt!

Haha, Doobybrain.com has been visited by almost every country in the world. Impressive (and hopefully, not misleading)!
