Pixar: 20 Years of Animation @ ACMI

I just finished a half-day at the Pixar exhibit at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. In one word I can describe it: FANTASTIC! In two, I can say this: SUPER FANTASTIC!!!

The Pixar exhibit is probably the coolest exhibit I’ve ever been to (this title previously held by the Bodies exhibit). Once inside, I was presented with all sorts of illustrations, sketches, drawings, CG artwork, sculptures, and audio from 8 of Pixar’s feature films (Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, & Ratatouille). Also shown was the artwork and storyboards for all of Pixar’s shorts. It was truly an exhibition that fully immersed me in everything that Pixar has done in the past 20 years.
The entire Pixar section was just filled with color from top to bottom. Seeing the sculptures and the creative process needed to make just one film indeed made me appreciate Pixar films even more than I already do! It was just all-around impressive in a visual sense.
Not that it matters anymore (since the Pixar exhibition in Melbourne closes this week), but I thought I’d post the promotional video just for fun. Watch it below and get the smallest notion of how awesome this exhibit really is.
After going today, my only regret is that I didn’t see this exhibit earlier when it was in New York City in 2005!!
