I just finished watching Election 1 & 2 (see my movie page). The two films by Johnnie To are said to be “the Asian Godfather“.

Election follows the inner workings of the Triad society in Hong Kong during the time when the shift of power is up for grabs (every 2 years, the chairman position in the triad society is open for election, hence the name of the films). If you liked The Godfather, you’ll probably like these two movies just the same. Actually, if you’re at all interested in underground crime families (fictional or not) you’ll probably like Election.

I just wish the DVDs that I bought had a bit more substance to them than just the movie and chapter selections. They didn’t even have much special features, and for a DVD not to have those is a bit of a downer. Still, however, I thought the films were worth buying. Pick them up if you’ve got some time! :)
