Believe it or not, toaster.org, if you ever happen to type that into your address bar in your browser, will lead to The Cyber Toaster Museum. It is what you think it is — a digital collection and history of the appliance known as the toaster. [via]
The virtual museum is pretty extensive, considering the fact that it’s about nothing but toasters. It has pictures of lots of different kinds of toasters with all sorts of wild (and plain) designs. It’s actually amazing how little the toaster has changed over time (here’s how a toaster actually works). What we think of as “advancements” in toasting technology are actually just advancements in toaster design. And my goodness, does the design of the toaster change over the years!
Check the museum out. Maybe you’ll find some design inspirations from its archive of photos. :)
And is it just me, or did any of you also think of The Brave Little Toaster? I dunno, every time I see a shiny silver toaster, I think of it with eyeballs and a mouth, hopping around…
