In case you missed it like I did, here’s the 75th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center in New York City!

Ashley Tisdale, Al Roker, and Nick Lachey co-host this year’s Christmas tree lighting.

The video above doesn’t really show the “instant” lighting for some reason (NBC might have just missed it), but the video below does.

The tree gets lit at 45 seconds into this video.

This year’s Christmas tree is eco-friendly! It gets most of its energy from solar panels and utilizes over 30,000 LED lights to save energy (and to make the tree seem brighter!). In addition to all these Earth-friendly ideas, the tree will also be recycled at the end of its term at Rockefeller Center and used as material for Habitat For Humanity.

Here’s the official tree at Rockefeller Center website. WNBC has a few facts about the past trees at Rockefeller Center.

Whee! This officially marks the start of Christmas season for me! For once, I am going to have a blazing hot Christmas rather than a cold Christmas. This should be interesting! :)

It’s-a Merica! Mario & Luigi 2008!

Mario and Luigi campaign shirt for the 2008 election, starting at $14.99!

If you’re going to root for anybody this upcoming year, it might as well be two famous video game cartoon plumbers!

Here’s some interesting things I picked up while reading the Mario entry over at Wikipedia:

  • Mario’s full name is Mario Mario. Yep, Mario is his first and last name, although Nintendo doesn’t really play up on this too much. It’s just so that calling Mario and Luigi together as the “Mario Bros.” makes more sense.
  • Mario was named after a rambunctious landlord of the former Nintendo offices.
  • Mario and his brother Luigi are from Brooklyn, New York!
  • Call me an idiot, but I never put these two together: Mario travels through pipes because he is a plumber. I just thought that’s how the Mushroom kingdom worked and it never occurred to me that the other characters might just walk everywhere.
  • Mario’s voice (along with Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and Toadsworth) are all voiced my Charles Martinet. See a video of him below.

This interview kinda sucks, but that’s ok. I was only watching to hear him do the various voices.

100 years of the New York City yellow taxi cab

I didn’t know this, but apparently the New York City yellow taxi cab is celebrating 100 years of service this year.

The NY Daily News has a slideshow of some great photos of taxis (and their occupants) from the past 100 years.

Started in 1907 by businessman Harry Allen after being overcharged for a trip across New York City, the taxi cab company that he started with a modest fleet of 65 red cabs would eventually become a [yellow] staple of New York City daily life. Today, there are over 40,000 taxi drivers occupying over 12,000 taxi cabs in New York City alone.

Although I don’t prefer to ride cabs myself, I always tell people who visit NYC that they must ride in one at least once. There’s just something exciting about being driven around in a crazed way by some stranger as the city whizzes by you.

If you don’t think you’ll ever make it to New York City to ride in a yellow cab, then maybe PBS’ Taxi Dreams video and website will tickle your curiosity a bit. There’s even panoramas from the inside and outside of a taxi. It’ll almost be like you’re riding in one.

Baby Herman

I rented Who Framed Roger Rabbit yesterday and I just finished watching it. It’s been a very long time since I saw the movie from beginning to end without any stops. I really liked the movie when I was much younger and after watching again just now I’m glad that I can still say the same.

Director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back To The Future series) certainly works his movie magic here. Who Framed Roger Rabbit still looks pretty good even after nearly 20 years since its release! Sometimes I really do wish that cartoons were living in the real world just like the rest of us. It would make life so much more fun and funny (and animated, too)!

Anyway, anybody who has seen the film knows that there’s a baby character that works with Roger Rabbit on the make-believe sound stages in the film. What I forgot was that this baby’s name is Herman! It was such a surprise to me when I heard “Baby Herman” for the first time at the beginning of the film. I simply forgot that that was the baby’s name, but once I heard it, I was like “Oh yeah! I remember!”

So yeah, this post is nothing but still images of Baby Herman. Click inside if you’re curious.

Just got this bad-quality image in the mail…

In NYC today (Thursday, November 29th) at the 8th Avenue Crumpler store, you can start off the holiday shopping season by getting 20% off all bags.

And if you buy a bag today, you can get a free photo with Santa, who obviously has dropped everything he’s doing up at the North Pole to come down and humor us all at the Crumpler store.

The 20% off on bags lasts all day from 11AM to 9PM.

If you want the free photo with Santa you’ll have to be there between 5PM and 7PM, as Santa will most likely have to leave the store early to get back to the North Pole.

Feist – 1234

Check out these re-created scenes of 1980’s New York…in Vancouver, Canada. Very cool!

These are great ads for Head & Shoulders dandruff shampoo.

No way! Alife and Krink have collaborated together on some new clothes.

Dr. Robert Cade, the inventor of Gatorade sports drinks, has died at the age of 80.

What the heck kind of Zune ad is this?!

Look at the new “city blueprint” terrain view in Google Maps. Cool!

This is a tourist trap.

Who the heck would pay $595 for a giant 6-foot Ugly Doll?

Huy Fong, maker of the very yummy Sriracha chili sauce, has a very ugly website.

This is an awesome look at how the Grand Theft Auto IV cover art was put together.

This is the cover art for Grand Theft Auto IV that is in the video above.

So lately I’ve been playing with my new iPod Classic a lot. The Cover Flow option has sort of gotten me a bit anal about the album cover art for my entire music collection. Funny thing is, album art made my previous iPod run like a snail. But this new iPod Classic doesn’t seem to slow down even when it shows album art. Maybe it’s the way the iPod is configured.

So yeah, I’ve been using Mp3tag a lot in order to embed the album art into my song files. The program has helped me a lot in organizing and correcting years of incorrect ID tags and such. So if you want to fix all of your music ID tags, Mp3tag is probably your best solution.
