This is absolutely fantastic! VectorMagic is a site from Stanford University that will automatically convert standard bitmap images into vector formats for you. You can download the vector images in popular formats like EPS, SVG, and PNG for use in other applications and situations.

There are even different levels of vectorization that you can choose from, in case you wanted your vector image to retain a certain look (keep it as smooth as possible or make it as simple as possible).

The process itself is pretty quick, but of course it depends mostly on the type and size of the original image you supply. If you want to see how VectorMagic compares to Corel or Adobe, then see some examples here. It seems like VectorMagic does more than just a good job. For what it’s worth, VectorMagic is definitely worth bookmarking for use now and later.

Note: I know the image I used isn’t ideal…
