Herman Yung, a New York-based graphic artist has done some incredible work for Australia’s Royal Institute of Technology (RMIT, formerly known as The Working Men’s College) for his culminating end-of-year project.
Above is the project entitled “Cultural Collage: A Fracture Look At American Pastimes“. The 4 collaged portraits of America are built using imagery from a wide range of places including celebrity photos, emerging technologies, iconic textiles, American foods, politicians, sports figures, and the American flag.
Cultural Collage – A Fractured Look At American Pastimes
RMIT Blackboard
15 November 2007American culture is a unique blend of niche communities, many of which you and I may be a part of. As American culture becomes more ubiquitous throughout the world, it is important to look at how America became the foremost leader in exporting their culture. From celebrities to star athletes, politicians, food and health, and technology, America is very adept at making any activity into an obsession worth following.
Herman Yung’s work is currently on display at the RMIT Blackboard until March 1, 2008. Entry is free so if you’re in the neighborhood I really recommend going into Blackboard and viewing the amazing work.
Check out more of his work at his website or buy his book at Amazon.com for $34.99.
