A couple of weeks ago, I posted a one-sentence blurb about how I thought the Reynolds Handi-Vac would be pretty cool to own.

And I was so right! Reynolds PR decided to send me a free Reynolds Handi-Vac vacuum sealer starter kit to try and test out. IT IS SO MUCH FUN. Having an over-excessive amount of food never seemed as rewarding as when you are sealing it in a vacuum bag. Check inside to see the Handi-Vac in action and to watch me vacuum seal some pretty extraordinary objects.

One of the first things I did with the vacuum sealer was vacuum seal a piece of chicken. It worked like a charm. It completely sucked out all of the air from the bag and left the chicken in a state of suffocation. I then threw it into my freezer. I can now pack my meat like supermarkets do!

The Reynolds Handi-Vac vacuum is pretty strong for such a small device. The photo above shows the suction tip and its power on my skin. It’s pulling my skin away. The Handi-Vac is only slightly bigger than a Nintendo Wii remote. This means that it’s perfect size for storing away in a cabinet or something when not in use — definitely ideal for the small kitchen.

After successfully sealing the chicken, I didn’t really have any more food to vacuum seal. So I started looking for other things that might fit inside the Handi-Vac bags.

As you can see, the Handi-Vac is even good for storing away robots and small toys!

vaccuum-zune.jpg
It’s also good for sealing away a Zune.

vaccuum-ds-lite.jpg
Oh, a Nintendo DS Lite can be nicely vacuum sealed with the Handi-Vac as well.

vaccuum-egg.jpg
Ok, I lied about not having any more food to seal. Here’s an egg, completely sealed away with the shell intact. Not that anybody would ever seal an egg away, but hey, it’s good to know that if one should need to seal an egg, it can be done.

Heck! You can even vacuum seal the Handi-Vac vacuum seal bags. What can’t be done with the Reynolds Handi-Vac? Nothing I say! The Reynolds Handi-Vac is simply one of the best kitchen appliances I’ve ever used. It’s incredibly useful (for food and other non-perishable items)!

I’d totally recommend getting one. You can find them on Amazon.com for $23.75.

I found a $10. off coupon five months ago in our Sunday newspaper. Just keep looking
or write to Reynolds. I absolutely love the Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Sealer but am in
need of more bags. Does anyone know where I can buy just the bags?

        Janet,
I’m new here so your ? has probably already nee answered. I got qrt bags at Walmart for $2.98. I didnt get the gal size yet but I will. One nice thing about buying from Wal*Mart is if you don’t like it you can bring it back, no problem. I hate it when stores don’t stand behind what they sell but Wal*Mart is great for that. Sometimes too good. I’ve heard of some really worn out itens that have been brought back and the money refunded. You wouldn’t believe what people return. I know, I work there.

was the biggest waste of 30.00 dollars works 2 or 3 times and then stops working

I got one for Christmas and it ONLY works WHEN IT WANTS TOO!!!!!!! I have tried for two days to seal three bags of cheese and still no luck. Being to think it was the worse gift ever.

This is a handy little device, but it does take longer than 20 seconds to suck the air from the bag. Why is anyone paying over $10 for this? They are on sale for under that in grocery & chain stores. You can also get a coupon for $2 off online for the starter as well as a 55 cent off coupon for bags. Just go to the Reynolds Handi-Vac site.

  • I want to try Reynolds Handi-vac, but don’t want to invest the money until I try it myself. Do you have any coupons.

    Thank you

I love my Handi-Vac!!! It does take some getting used to and sometimes the bags can be a real pain. If you have trouble getting it to work, leave some air in the bag before you zip it shut – learned this through trial and error. Make sure there’s air under the “Press Here” part of the bag. Also don’t be afraid to move the suction part around the “Press Here” part because sometimes the little holes aren’t perfectly centered.

Would I recommend this after using it for 8 months and sealing hundreds of pounds of meat and veggies (we live on a farm)? Absolutely!!! But don’t pay the ridiculous Amazon price! You should be able to buy a sealer for under $10 and a box of bags for under $2.50. Watch for coupons too – I think I’ve seen as high as $4 off a sealer.

My wife and I got one of these a few months back and it is just fantastic. Works easily and it kept some T-bones for 3 months and they looked just like they came out of the butchers display case. No freezer burn whatsoever. It’s great for dry stuff too. You can grate cheese, suck the air out andit compress’s almost flat. Then it will fluff right up when you open it. We sure like it.

  • Tomasco says:

One thing…..I couldn’t get it to work at all at first. I was trying way too hard. Just put your stuff in, lay it on a table or flat surface and just touch the machine to the spot. You don’t have to press hard or puncture anything. It takes a few seconds for the air to start vacuuming out so be patient especially with the larger bags. You might want to be a bit smarter than I was and remember to ZIP the bag shut before vacuuming it. That really does help.

I just saw the handi-vac demonstrated at Wal*Mart yesterday. I bought one and it is great. It only costs $9.48. I want to get some for my girls for Christmas. What a great gift it would make. Especially my daughter and daughter in law who love kitchen gadgets as much as I do. And it’s great to find one that really works as claimed.

I would love to try the Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacum Sealer Kit with bags but I need to find a coupon for the starter kit , I tryed to find one on-line, and tryed your 1-800 number with no answer can you be of any help. Thank you and Happy New Year! Loretta Morton

  • Tomasco says:

They are around $6 at Walmart. Ya really gonna search for coupons?

  • Mimi says:

Some hints: For liquids and sauces, even soup – you can vac them one of two way (1) flash freeze them in desired size bowls or containers, then put them in the bags. (2) put them directly in the bags first and if you can stand them up right, flash freeze them right in the bags first, take out for a few minutes and then vac them.

Also, I am experimenting with re-using the bags. I tried washing one out and gave up because some water had gotten between the layers. Later it occurred to me that there was a quarter tsp of water at the most – I should be able to vac that out and re-use the bags to save money.

I experimented with french toast–put a couple slices in along with a couple of links (cooked) sausage. If you freeze the cooked toast on a cookie sheet, you can vac them nicely.

I have use my Reynolds Handi Vac for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it. It is an economical way to freeze bulk items to use at a later time. I would recommend it anytime!!

  • Lisa says:

OMG!! I have fallin love with this handy dandy life saver!

I started to buy one 102 different times, but fear sigh another piece of junk that wouldn’t work! But after helping a friend can, jar, pickle and freeze tons of veggies and jam, this Reynold’s Handi-Vac has made me in to a changed girl! It took me a few mins to sit the lil sucker just right, once you hit the sweet spot it’s all gravy! I plan to freeze me some gravy too!

I’m planning on buying 4 of them very very soon! One for ME, the Mom, the Sister, and the Sister in law!

  • Susan says:

I love the Handivac, but now I can’t find the bags at the stores. The only ones I can find now are the ones on Amazon.com for $23. I was paying a little under $3 for the smaller count boxes, but I just can’t see paying $1.00 per bag or a little more.

    • UT says:

You can’t get the bags at stores anymore as reynolds has pulled the plug on the popular product (discontinued) you can find bags at mybrands.com but they are currently on backorder and the new shipment they are expecting is their last.

  • Jessica says:

where can I buy it in Hong Kong? many thanks
