Employees from Veniero’s along with Steve Schirripa (the actor who portrayed Bobby Bacala in “The Sopranos” on HBO) put together a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree made of cannoli pastries!

The cannoli Christmas tree is 10 feet tall and made up of about 3000 signature Veniero’s cannolis. All together, that makes it a $4500 Christmas tree (if you value each cannoli at the sale price of $1.50).

On Thursday morning, the tree will make an appearance on NBC’s “The Today Show.” Unfortunately, what cannolis remain at that point will have to be discarded. A spokesman for Lifeskool TV said the producers looked into making the desserts available for public consumption, but found that the health code would not allow them to be eaten after staying out overnight. (As readers note below, the “cream” in cannoli is made from ricotta cheese, which must be refrigerated.)

The tree was erected on Mulberry Street in Little Italy (NYC) to mark the debut of a new Italian cooking television series. It’s a shame that unlike the 90,000 doughnuts used to build the world’s largest doughnut (made of doughnuts), these cannolis won’t be offered to the public for consumption. They are going to be thrown out and discarded! Nooooooooo!!!!
