This photo, taken in January 2007 by Jacopo Pandolfini, shows a monkey gazing at himself in the reflection of a broken piece of mirror.

The photo won an honorable mention in National Geographic’s International Photography Contest in the “Animals” category.

This photograph was taken during a vacation in northern India in January 2007, in the city of Rishikesh. While walking on the streets in midtown, I saw a monkey stealing a mirror from another monkey and decided to follow it. After a while the monkey thief stopped on a tree and started to look in the mirror, giving me the opportunity to take this picture.

I don’t know about you, but this photo seems to be worth much more than just an honorable mention. The fact that this monkey is self-aware is just fascinating to me (I think most animals are not self-aware, right?).

Anyway, check out the winners from National Geographic’s International Photo Contest and see some great photos of our world and its inhabitants.
