WTF: Christmas banners in Melbourne

Can somebody please explain to me just how these Christmas banners being put up around Melbourne, Australia are making the city any more aesthetically pleasing? They don’t say anything other than “Christmas”. That’s it. Sometimes, they are coupled with some other colorful flags, but that’s about as creative as the design team behind this project gets.
If you ask me, the city is probably better off without such decorations. They’re just really ugly.
Click inside if you care to see just how “beautiful” these Christmas banners make Melbourne, Australia. -_-

Seriously, WTF? These are the worst thought-out city decorations I’ve ever seen!

Awww, I like the banners! They are very… hmm… ‘Melbourne’. :p
I think we’ve always had banners of that style. I love the Christmas angels.
Although, admittedly, that lone banner does look kind of odd…
