On Thursday, December 13, 2007, a 500-pound, 7-foot tall numeral “8″ sign traveled via the New York City Subway from the Bronx to Times Square on the 6 and R trains.

The large “8″ is part of the 2-0-0-8 sign that sits atop One Times Square which will fully illuminate on January 1, 2008 — at the stroke of midnight to ring in the new year!

If you want, you can catch a glimpse of the 2008 sign at the Times Square Visitor Center on 46th Street from now until December 19th, every day from 8AM to 8PM.

Man, I would have loved to be on the train with this big number.

People have been saying we need more rail freight in New York City… Evidently this is becoming a reality!
