Portland, Oregon is about to be home to some of the safest city streets for bikers. After several unforunate biking accidents in the past few years, Portland is now implementing new “bike boxes” in order to prevent such accidents (and death) from occurring. Basically, these bike boxes create designated stop areas for bicyclists to idle while waiting for a light. The boxes are placed in front of car lanes so that there can be no mistake in overlooking a bicyclist. I wonder if NYC is going to do this soon too.
