Musical duds of 2007

Now that you know my favorites in music for 2007, I thought it’d be good to do a post to highlight the music that I thought totally sucked. Let’s cut to the chase…

Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape
What the heck was this?! I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why Gwen Stefani made “Wind It Up” her single. Actually, I don’t even know why Gwen Stefani recorded this album. How does somebody go from one great album to one big dud? Please hold back on the 3rd album for now and release something with No Doubt. Now that would be awesome. WIND IT UP!

KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic
First of all, WTF on the album cover? Really, WTF. Second, uh, WTF is up with the album cover? Seriously, did somebody somewhere think this was a good idea? Maybe someone thought she’d look sexy? Maybe? FAIL! Eh, let’s just say that when I first got this album, I thought I was listening to the wrong files. It was that bad. I’d gladly choose Eye To The Telescope over this album any day.

Angels & Airwaves - I-Empire
Here’s another sophomore album that just didn’t do it for me. I liked their first CD. Not so much this second one. At least it had a cool cover…

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
I think all the hype that went into the first album wore off on me because I just didn’t like this second CD at all. However, something tells me that this might be one of those albums I’ll come back to in another year or so and say “Wow, this is really good”. Only time will tell really, but for now, I’ll pass on this piece of work.

Britney Spears - Blackout
Like her life, her music is just falling apart all over the place. Ah, what the heck. I might as well include her design team in there as well. C’mon…who approved this one? It’s like a combination of the worst photo and the worst graphic design ever. Oh, and the music sucks. For real. This CD probably takes first honors as the worst CD I’ve listened to all year.

The Veronicas - Hook Me Up
if anybody remembers, I actually liked The Veronicas’ first major release, so much so that I named it on my musical list in 2006. Hook Me Up however was not so likeable. Maybe it’s the fact that they kept using their single from this album on TV commercials and promos — it was everywhere and it wasn’t winning me over. And as for the rest of the CD, it’s just plain Jane, honestly. Nothing special here so I moved on. Oh, and living here for 6 months now, I can surely tell you all that this album cover work would come from Australia. It’s so dark and fluorescent. Typical.
Ok, so that’s it. My short and concise list of music that made my ears want to close.
PS: Barnes & Noble has better album cover art than Amazon.com.
