Sony Ericsson just announced the XPERIA X1, a beautiful arc-slider smartphone with heaps of features.

From the press release:

The XPERIA X1 combines a 3-inch clear wide VGA display and a full QWERTY keyboard within a quality metal-finish body. With Windows Mobile® inside, the XPERIA™ X1 lets you choose from a dynamic range of activities at anytime and anywhere; from enjoying your favourite entertainment content to working efficiently on-the-move. Access a world of experiences simply by touching the XPERIA™ panel on the screen.

The goal of the XPERIA X1 is to have all of your multimedia capabilities (video, music, phone, contacts, email, internet, etc.) in one device that’s small enough to carry with you at all times.

Now that the need to be fully-connected at all times is increasing, the XPERIA X1 looks like a solid player among only a handful of good choices.

Here are some specs to dwell on:

  • 3″ WGVA touch-screen
  • full QWERTY keyboard
  • joystick navigation
  • 3.2MP camera
  • bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, FM radio
  • microSD expansion slot
  • Windows Mobile

And with all of that comes the usual phone features you’d expect in any smartphone nowadays.

The unit is available beginning the second half of 2008 in silver and black. If I had to choose, I’d get the XPERIA X1 over a Nokia N810.

The image above is made to illustrate the hi-res nature of the press images that Sony Ericsson has released to the public. This is a 100% crop of the area marked in red.

Trust me, the SUPER HI-RES images are more exciting, but if you don’t have the bandwidth, you can view smaller images inside.
