I’m celebrating Presidents Day this year by posting a hi-res image of the front (obverse) side of the current United States Quarter which features the head/bust of George Washington, the nation’s first President.
Here are some images of past United States Quarter designs.
Presidents Day (sometimes written as President’s Day or Presidents’ Day) is the first United States federal holiday created by the government to honor an American citizen. Originally, the holiday was celebrated on Washington’s birthday (hence the alternative name, “Washington’s Birthday”), but later on the holiday was moved to the third Monday in February to jointly honor the birthdays of Washington and Abraham Lincoln, two of the nation’s greatest Presidents.
Below is an image of the reverse side of the Bicentennial Quarter. I believe this to be the best looking reverse side of any United States Quarter ever made thus far.
And…just because…here’s a video on how coins are made.
