When I was writing about the Swarovski-covered Scrabble board previously, I saw that ABC News also featured a Hot Wheels car covered in Swarovski crystals on their list of “expensive items for the rich”.
Intrigued, I looked into the matter and found some more photos from Hot Wheels Collectors.
Hot Wheels® today announced its year-long plans to celebrate the brand’s 40-year heritage at the 105th American International Toy Fair®. Anniversary activities were kicked off with the unveiling of a custom jeweled 1:64-scale Hot Wheels® car, designed by celebrity jeweler Jason of Beverly Hills. This one-of-a-kind car, the most expensive in Hot Wheels® history, was made to commemorate the production of the four-billionth Hot Wheels® vehicle.
Holy crap. Four billion hot wheels in 40 years! That’s a lot of little tiny cars! This extremely limited Hot Wheels car is valued at $140,000, with about 2700 diamonds weighing nearly 23 karats. And not only is the car covered in diamonds on the outside, it’s covered in diamonds on the inside as well! The car body itself is 18-karat white-gold with white and black diamonds inside the functioning hood!

To top it off, the case that this car comes in includes 40 individual white diamonds to signify each of the past 40 years in Hot Wheels production history.

Like the Scrabble game board, this Hot Wheels car will be auctioned off and the money will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
