Australians pronounce Nike wrong

So get this: Lots of people in Melbourne (and I assume all of Australia) pronounce Nike (the shoe brand) as “naɪk” instead of “naɪki” (the latter pronunciation is proper according to IPA standards).
When I first heard this, I thought it was a joke. But sure enough, it’s fact. Many Australians simply leave out the long E sound at the end of Nike.
Trust me, it sounds ridiculous.

I’m aussie, I say it the correct way. Defiantly have to agree with you though and the rest of the aussie population say it incorrectly

I’m Canadian, have always said it without the “ee” at the end, even though I know it’s incorrect. Everyone I know does the same. “Nike-ee” sounds childish, as most words associated with that sound and structure are related to children.
Mommy
Daddy
Mikey
etc

Actually, Nike is a greek name for a goddess, so the word or pronounciation has nothing to do with an American company that sells shoes. With that said, I say Nike like Mike, because Nike-ee sounds really gay.
