How do they change the tires on a jumbo jet?

It’s surprising to me that I haven’t ever heard of a wheel coming loose on take-off or landing despite the fact that these tires are still more or less hand-cranked. [via]

A tire crew for a jumbo jet airplane has about 30 minutes to change a worn out tire. A jet can have up to 30 individual tires to go through, but I assume from watching the video above that a tire crew only changes a few at a time (changing all 30 would just take too many hours out of flight time).

Another day, another thing learned: Airplane tires are not filled with air; they are filled with nitrogen.
