A “desire path” is the term given to the makeshift paths that pedestrians create through the continual use of a preferred route rather than the designated sidewalk. More often than not, these paths appear on fields of grass where pedestrians have collectively decided over time that cutting across the grass makes more sense than following the concrete path.
