Gmail eliminates Spam folder, wins the war on email spam

The thing I love about Gmail is that it’s always improving. Today I logged into my Gmail account and saw that there was a “New Features!” link posted at the top right corner. Apparently, Google has gotten so good at combating spam that they’ve begun the process of eliminating the spam folder altogether. And sure enough, when I checked my folder list on the left side in Gmail, my spam folder was gone!

Like all Gmail improvements, Google says that this “feature” (or lack thereof) will slowly make its way into all accounts over time, so if you don’t see it in your Gmail yet, just wait a few days and it’ll probably be there.

Anyway, just a side thought: Gmail is only 4 years old (it launched on April 1, 2004) and in those 4 short years, they’ve managed to set the bar for just about all web-based email. They were the first to increase web-based storage of email [for free] to 1GB (on April 1, 2005, just one year after they launched, they decided to incrementally give space away for free) and amazingly, now they are essentially getting rid of spam! What next?
