The Subway Sun: old NYC advertisements and posters

12ozPROPHET has a good collection of old New York City Subway posters that were known collectively as “The Subway Sun”. These posters were around from the 1940’s until the 1960’s and helped encourage Subway ridership and safety. They also served to deliver announcements whenever there were changes or disruptions to Subway service.
Forgotten-NY has covered the Subway Sun before. If you want to see more Subway Sun advertisements, visit Subway Nut or The JoeKorNer.
If you’re curious, these days The Subway Sun message still lives on, but under a different name: SubTalk, TrainTalk, or BusTalk (depending on which mode of transportation you’re riding).
UPDATE: Here’s a list of all of the security campaign posters put out by the MTA.
