Take a good hard look now because in about 5 years the gigantic landmark known as the Kingsbridge Armory that sits at 29 West Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx will become a shopping center!
The 575,000-square-foot building will be transformed into a $310 million retail destination by Related Companies, reports the New York Times (Related Companies is the same development group responsible for the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle).
Here is the press release from Related Companies.
Construction at the site is set to begin sometime in the Spring of 2009, which means I’ll have some time to head on over there to check out the hallow shell before they redevelop it.
From the initial plan renderings, it looks like the Armory will retain most of its exterior. If that’s the case, then this future shopping center will look pretty darn cool.
