The New York Times reviews Speed Racer

Wow, A. O. Scott of The New York Times rips Speed Racer a new one in his latest movie review.

I haven’t seen the film, but this just confirms my suspicions that Speed Racer is probably a very terrible movie.

  1. Forget about the critics and the reviews, it’s an awesome movie. I’m trying to understand why the critics panned the movie, because there is nothing wrong with the movie. Great CG, the plot is solid, the acting isn’t lacking anything. If you are a fan of the original cartoon (yes there have been crappy American remakes of the cartoon) then just think of this as a live action version of the cartoon.

I went to see this film reluctantly, this is a movie for kids blah blah x 50,
but then then kind of excited after my girlfriend showed me the trailer on-line.
So it was her idea (that’s my story and im sticking to it)
We saw it in the IMAX in London and it blew me away,
The main set-pieces are the races and they just get better and better after each one.

In-between this you have this kitsch fifties Americana attitudes and décor where there darkest colour is Purple,
One of the scenes shown in the above clip shows Speed careering down a tunnel with animated zebras galloping along side, this looks positively breathtaking on a screen 20 metres high and flip knows how wide.
After coming out of the cinema onto dreary overcast London everything seems just sooo dull. Great fun for a rainy day.. But only a rainy day. Okay.
