I got an Australian Penny today

Anybody who has visited Australia in the recent past knows that the entire country has done away with the 1-cent Penny. Australia simply gets around the situation by rounding everything off to the nearest 5-cents. I think it’s a very smart thing to do especially nowadays when a Penny is worth so little that nobody would want to carry it anyway.
With the exception of my dad, I can hardly think of anybody I know that carries Pennies around with them. It’s simply not worth it.
Anyway, today was supposedly the 10 year anniversary of the last day that “guardies” or “cardies” (I couldn’t tell what they were saying because of the accent) were seen on Melbourne Trams. And to celebrate the occasion, a group of individuals in old Tram costumes from back in the day rode the tram and gave out tram tickets and change in old Australian Pennies. It was only a one-day thing, so don’t expect to find them doing the same tomorrow.
This is my souvenir to bring home. :)
