WiiSpray: The spray paint can for the Wii

Martin Lihs at Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Germany has created a prototype of a virtual spray paint can for the Nintendo Wii. [via]

Called the WiiSpray, this can allows any would-be graffiti artist to practice their skills in a safe environment without having to fear cops or angry property owners. The can works with the same motion-sensing capabilities that the Wiimote makes use of. The WiiSpray even comes with several different caps to simulate real-world spray cap properties and feel.

This looks like a lot of fun to play with.

  • margo zavaletta says:

  • Graffiti crazy says:

  • Eric(Touch""") says:

Hey, Why don’t you just spend some money and grab some paint and accually go out side and bomb … All you are going to do with that can is sitting at home and being a poser at spraypainting. …Come on , get up , and go fucking tag ….pce “TOUCH”……..p.s it does look sick but why waste the money you know…

  • nerdalert says:

If it doesn’t make that rattling sound when you shake it, I DON’T WANT IT.

  • Mr Lawernce says:

This might be a good idea but is that sony playstation buttons that they have harvested for the new wii spray peripheral?

  • Rob says:

lol the whole fun of spraypainting is the adventurous/rebellious real world side of it .. this is retarded.

  • dse901 says:

    Can you sniff it too?

  • dude says:

    yeah i agree.
the whole point of graffiti art is to go outside and do it.
But i’d get this anyway if it came out to be legit and if there was some type of community for wiisprayers to share and post up their work. That would be fun.

I really love good artwork, be it graffity or what ever…
However, I hate the “Dumbo was here…”-graffity. Maybe such “artists” could use this device to practice a little more.

wish they had horseshoes for wii ….or do they

  • graphisdead says:

This is dumb. Almost as dumb as spray painting a virtually unreadable name on someone’s storefront, truck or house. Even the on the bus or parking meters is dumb because it just makes everything look shitty. it you want to make a mural- get permission like a real artist, or at least do it where there isn’t a victim involved. And hey, maybe something more creative than scribbling your made up name – like the stencil work that’s out there. but taggers can’t make things that enlighten people. that would require thought.

    • some guy says:

FYI, most writers that do legal murals usually get a lot of practice on public spaces without permission. There are a lot of writers who ’scribbled their made up names’ quite a bit before becoming more successful commercially.

It’s pretty easy to pass judgement when you don’t really understand something. If you take the time to look, you’ll find there is much more to it than that.

I’ll concede that most graffiti isn’t great looking. A lot of it is illegible, and wouldn’t make a lot of sense to me if I didn’t have the insight that comes with first hand experience. To the untrained eye, it might look like a lot of scribbles that don’t mean anything, but I assure you it means something to someone. You may enjoy golf; I don’t. You may value your favorite club very highly, while I don’t much value at all in any golf club. I will probably never like golf, even if someone explained it and coached me. You will probably never see graffiti the way I do.

For the record, I think the spraycan controller is cool. I am also a big nerd.

and what do you say if I do understand it? How about the fact that I am an experienced tagger, and an artist and made this comment from a stand point of knowledge and experience? 99 percent of graffiti is illegible marker tags hello may name is type labels. then the rest of us have to look at this mess rising the bus, in the streets, on our trucks which we bring to clients’ jobsites, on our businesses and store fronts that we have built up with our blood sweat and tears. There is artistry in some graffiti, and I mentioned that- but what you are saying is that we should be happy to have our cities be a throw away canvas for anyone who takes it and that is not right. I don’t say that it is all bad- the one percent of graffiti that is worthwhile is stand out- mostly because the rest is such crap. But there are avenues to put art in public legitimately and there should be a respect for spaces by others.

i can read 88% of those “scribbles”
however i do like fill ins much better
esp. when i KNOW they could have done something better.
    maybe they can’t?
but if its a spot where i Know they had time and they still did some rushed crap
    that i dont like.

theres 2 sides to it. but sometimes you just wanna put your name up fast
and as much as possible. spray paint costs money people..

do 1 nice one (which gets taken down) or do 40 shitty ones of which 99% will stay up. This is a serious complaint as a painter all my nice shit gets painted over because they dont want people to think someone could stand there for 10 min. and actually do something nice, however my scribble shit is always still up for years!!!! it sucks. i never used to do that but thats what the city lets stay there
go figure the ugly stuff… so PLEASE complain to your city
