Elian Gonzalez joins the Cuban Communist Union

Maybe you remember the little boy in the image above. Maybe you don’t. But that kid is Elian Gonzalez, and he was at the center of a huge custody and immigration battle back in 1999/2000. He basically became an international news sensation at the time for two reasons: everybody thought he was cute and he actually wanted to go back to Cuba (but his relatives wanted to keep him in the US). Anyway, to make a long story short, he was eventually seized at gunpoint by border patrol and sent back to Cuba, never to be heard from again until now.
Elian, now 14, just made headlines again for joining Cuba’s Young Communist Union, vowing to never let Castro (the former and the current one) down. Yay for liberty!
