It’s been a while since I’ve been in the market for a new compact digital. My previous Canon SD450 served me so well for such a long time that I naturally went back to Canon to find my next camera. And I think I’ve found it.

This is Canon Powershot SD790 IS. A 10MP compact digital with Canon’s classic ELPH styling (none of that rounded corner crap they’ve been putting out lately).

The camera has an image stabilizer which I believe can’t be that great on a compact digital, but I’m willing to be surprised. Anyway, the specs on this are exactly what I’m looking for. There can’t possibly be a more perfect camera for me at the moment.

I am pretty sure I’ll buy this when I get to Hong Kong (and the cool thing about that is that it’ll say IXUS 90 IS instead of SD790 IS).

Pricegrabber lists this camera for the low price of $293.90.

that camera is pretty good. i only tried using the macro mode tho. i’m thinking about the panasonic lumix tz5 for my next portable. i dunno if HD video recording is just marketing or if i’ll really use it.

if its HD on a compact digital, i’d say its just marketing. if you’re in for HD video, purchase an HD camcorder at least.

i played around a bit with that model and found i really didn’t like the buttons, especially the sliding one that switches from video to photo mode. they just felt very awkward. i just got josh the sd870 and i really like it. it may be curvier than you prefer, but i really like that it comes with a wide angle lens. anyway, let me know what you get!
