Christian the friendly lion

July 13, 2008 @ 1:27 am

I’ve posted about this friendly lion before, but at the time I didn’t have any background information on the lion or the two men in the video.

It turns out that the lion’s name is Christian and that he was adopted by two men — John Rendall and Ace Bourke — in 1969 as a cub and raised until fully grown. When Christian became an adult lion, the two men set him free in Africa [allegedly].

After about a year, John and Ace went against the best advice of their friends and went and visited Christian in his wild habitat, not knowing exactly if Christian had become a wild beast. Surprisingly, Christian recognized the two men and immediately ran up to them and gave them hug after hug after hug.

I never grow tired of watching this video. The book is a definate read for anyone who, like me, is a fan of Christian. Ace and John have started up their own website (see above) which has all the latest information on this story and what they are doing now. Its worth while having a look at.

I completely agree with Katie. I have recently read the book. I also bought the DVD. They are both incredible. I am COMPLETELY in love with Christian. I cry my eyes out each time I watch him. When he hugs the guys, especially Ace, I about die. It is the most touching story I have ever read or watched. It kills me that Christian is no longer with us and it hurts to even think of what his thoughts may have been after Ace and John left Africa the second time. I HIGHLY recommend both the book and DVD. No one will be sorry.
