Lately, whenever I see photos of Beijing under massive construction in preparation for the 2008 Olympics, I compare it to the World Trade Center site (ground zero) and realize how sad it is that progress has been so slow there in the past couple of years.
The new headquarters for China’s CCTV station, pictured above, broke ground in 2004 and is scheduled for completion in time for the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing, China. The entire city of Beijing seems to be sprouting construction projects left and right, all of which seem to be on schedule. If they aren’t on schedule, at least they seem to be rising much faster than their comparable US counterparts.
It has taken so long for the WTC site to get its act together that I feel like by the time the site is completed, the design will be so out of date that it won’t even be worth comparing those structures to structures in other developing nations.
