Hi, my name is Tristan Wilds and I play Dixon on 90210. You may have noticed me because I am the token black guy in those 90210 promo billboards. Sure, the 90210 zip code may have a lot of white people, but I have the important job of making the crazy black people happy who otherwise would immediately call the race card upon seeing that EVERYBODY ON THE SHOW IS WHITE. Who cares about all the other races, I am black!
And be sure to check out my token Asian friend when 90210 starts. He/she isn’t shown in the promo material, but you can pretty much bet that he/she will be really white-washed and really annoying. That’s how Asians are on TV, there’s no doubt about it! Asians=Annoying. Yay!

What is wrong with the name Dixon? I think it suits him well…But GOSH I LOVE TRISTAN!!! TRIS ur so krute, and how awesome that we have the same last name…..well….at least we will!! LOL!!!!!
I don’t see the big deal with his show name. He’s practically mixed black and white. Name boundaries don’t apply to him, be it fictional or real life. His name could be Tyler Scott and it would be fine. But I do think that the show needs more regular blacks. I thought Lauren London was on it. Unfortunately, if I’m correct, she went gay? Well that takes care of Affirmitive action! lol… Black Guy, Black Girl, Gay character. 2 Birds 1 stone.
Are you the token black guy in the classic sense of the word? I don’t think so. By the way, I had absolutely no plans to watch 90210, but stumbled on a rerun of the first episode earlier this summer. I caught all the episodes on the Internet and have an appreciation for the character Dixon because he’s a character with a lot of history unlike many black characters in the history of cinema. A token black character is a black character used to make the show hip and to pull in a wider, more diverse audience. These characters are usually goofy or over the top or annoying or dysfunctional and they don’t have any history behind them. Not to say that Dixon isn’t hip and doesn’t pull in a wider audience, but the character Dixon is an integral part of the team and his storyline is germane to the functionality of the show, and tons of people of all races can identify with Dixon. I can identify with the whole bi-polar girl friend thing. I went through that craziness in my early 20s; and when Silver flipped, I almost had a panic attack reminiscing about those days.
