City of God (Cidade de Deus)

I watched City of God the other day and it is now one of my favorite movies of all time. It is so incredibly good in storytelling and in cinematography. It’s no wonder that the film has nearly 9 stars on IMDB, a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a user score of over 80 on MetaCritic.

This film totally deserves it. It’s just that good.

The story follows a boy named Rocket and how he lives in a slum on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro in a city nicknamed the “City of God“. The film goes in depth into the different stories of important figures in the City of God and how they are all connected in some way to a larger epidemic of crime and lawlessness and drugs.

If you’ve got some time, definitely check out City of God this weekend and see just how intense the movie is.
