Pictures of The Waterboard Thrill Ride at Coney Island

As you already know from the video I posted earlier, I was at Coney Island yesterday with my sister and we came across the Waterboard Thrill Ride, an animatronic diorama by Steve Powers and Creative Time depicting the act of waterboarding. Waterboarding is a form of torture used by some military regimes around the world.

You feed the “ride” $1 and the animatronic diorama comes to life to show how waterboarding is done. The inside of the mock jail cell shows a man in a black hoody pouring water over another man in an orange jumpsuit that is tied to a board face-up with a cloth over his head.

Around the walls of the exterior of the diorama are signs that show how waterboarding is conducted. The posters are in 3 languages.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, the Waterboard Thrill Ride isn’t actually a ride, but more of an exhibit to let the public know that these terrible and torturous acts are being committed in today’s world.
