Balance your bicycle with the GyroBike
As you may have guessed, the GyroBike is a device based off of the ideas of a gyroscope that help you balance and stabilize your bike at very low speeds. Normally, if you push a bicycle along at walking speeds, the bicycle tends to shift one way or the other. But not with the GyroBike installed. [via]
The GyroBike’s constant spinning center allows the bike to realign its center of gravity on its own, so even attempting to push the bike down lightly will not result in the bike falling over. It’s pretty incredible to watch and see in the demonstration video above.
But as cool as this is, I can’t help but think about how hard it might be to steer the front wheel when it is constantly trying to counter your turning direction. If you’ve ever held a spinning gyroscope in your hand, you’ll know that rotating your wrist with the gyroscope moving is an awkward experience in gravitational force. What if you really needed to make a sudden movement and you forget that the GyroBike is installed? Maybe it’s just something to get used to.
Even so, I definitely do think this is a pretty neat thing for little kids to learn how to bike. It can instill confidence right at the start!
