HTC Touch Diamond

As many of you know by now, I’m in the market for a new cellular device and up until very recently I’ve been waiting for the BlackBerry Bold. But because the BlackBerry Bold is taking forever to get here, I started to look at some other devices that do things along the same lines as the Bold.

One of the phones I got to play around with today was the HTC Touch Diamond, a beautiful smartphone that runs Windows Mobile (but you wouldn’t know it right off the bat because of the sleek interface). The phone is touchscreen and small and can do everything that any other Windows Mobile device can do — and a bit more.

You can access the internet via Opera, watch YouTube videos on a dedicated YouTube application, take pictures with the 3.2MP camera (no flash though), listen to music and store files on the 4GB internal memory, check the weather on the beautiful weather app, and use integrated GPS. The phone supports HSDPA/3G networks, so unlocked, this phone will be able to pretty much go anywhere.

The downside of the phone seems to be the speed and response of the touchscreen. Reviews are saying that it’s sluggish and videos on YouTube seem to support this. I don’t know yet if it’s something I would (or should) sacrifice.

I really can’t be bothered to wait for the BlackBerry Bold when a phone like this exists already in actual stores. It felt good to hold.
